Lester King Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Breathitt Funeral Home on Feb. 18, 2026.
Lester "Chick" King, Jr., age 73, entered eternal rest Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at his home at Sebastian Branch, Kentucky. Born on August 22, 1952 in Hazard, Kentucky, he spent his life rooted in the values and traditions of his beloved home state.

Chick was the devoted husband of Sophia Turner King with whom he shared fifty years of marriage. Their enduring partnership was a testament to loyalty and mutual support. He is also remembered by his brother, Wayne King; nieces and nephews, Jeanna King Starnes, Tammy Ludwig, James Ingram, Matthew King and Erin Ulin; two special nieces, Jasmine Turner and Alexis Turner; as well as a host of great nephews and great nieces. His extended family included many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law who cherished his presence in their lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Lillie Ingram King; his brothers, James Ingram and David King; and his nephew, Chris Ingram.

Chick dedicated much of his professional life to serving as a postal clerk for the United States government. His commitment to public service extended beyond his career-he was a proud US Army veteran who served four years including two years stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Chick continued to serve his country for an additional two years in the National Guard. His deep sense of patriotism was evident throughout his life.

A man who found joy in the outdoors, Chick started a black powder hunting club that brought together fellow enthusiasts who shared his appreciation for nature and tradition. He took great pleasure in retirement, embracing the opportunity to spend more time with family and pursue personal interests. Among these was caring for his fish and maintaining his aquarium-a hobby that brought him peace and satisfaction. As he grew older, Chick found comfort in the simple pleasures of home life.

Chick's generosity extended to those around him; he loved helping people and taking care of them whenever he could. His warmth touched many lives within both family circles and the broader community.

A person of faith, Chick was a member of Turner Creek Mennonite Church. His spiritual life provided guidance and strength throughout the years.

A celebration of life ceremony for Chick will be held Sunday, February 22, 2026 at Breathitt Funeral Home beginning at 1:00 PM with Phil Swartzentruber officiating. The family will receive visitors beginning at 11:00 AM Sunday. Interment will follow in Letch Turner Cemetery at Sebastian Branch.

Lester "Chick" King, Jr.'s legacy is one of service-to country, community, friends, and family. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
