Lester F. Lowe, Sr., 76, of Akron, went to his final resting place on December 31, 2024.
He was born on July 25, 1948 in Fairmont, West Virginia to the late Raymond and Katie Lowe. As a child, his family settled in Akron, Ohio and Lester graduated from Central High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he traveled the world and was stationed off the coasts of Vietnam during the Vietnam War. While on leave, he was introduced to Sharon Russell and they became inseparable. They married and their family grew to include four daughters and a son. The family spent time living in Cincinnati and Texas before permanently returning to Akron.
Lester spent twenty years as a general manager for General Ionics. He retired from MK Architecture, where he was a purchasing manager.
Lester could be ornery and stubborn, but those who knew him best learned to love his spirit. If he was giving you a hard time, you knew he liked you. He was an excellent judge of character, a skill he passed on to his children.
Lester enjoyed sports, especially football and baseball. He and Sharon were devoted to the Cleveland Indians and loved to watch games together.
In addition to his parents, Lester was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon in September; daughter, Tracy Kay; and siblings, Robert Lowe, JR Lowe, Mary Lowe, and Donna Rollins.
He is survived by his daughters, Tammy Lowe, Deborah LeGendre, and Michelle (Denny) Glass; son, Les (John) Chan Lowe; sisters, Carol (Steve) Dobos and Rebecca (Jozsef) Dobos; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating Lester and Sharon will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at 4:00 pm with visitation from 2:00 pm until start of service at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio. Lester will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Monday, February 10th at 2:15 pm.
