Lewis Daniel Donaldson “Red”, 76, of Kings Mountain, passed away at Atrium Health Charlotte on August 16, 2023. He was born November 11, 1946, in Cherokee County, South Carolina, to the late John Donaldson and Annie Blackwell Mayberry.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary “Tootie” Donaldson; brother, Norman “Dab” Donaldson and sister Earline Barnette.
Red will be remembered for being a friend to everyone, making them laugh while enjoying their time together and sharing stories on his front porch. He was an avid carp fisherman and golfer and was a champion Rook player. He also enjoyed hunting and playing softball in his younger days. Red worked at the Livent Lithium Plant where he retired and will be missed greatly by many.
Left to cherish his memories are sons, Larry Donaldson (Lynn), Rickey Donaldson (Bell); daughters, Sherry Whitaker (Craig), Lynn Smith (Jimmy), Suzie Blake (Kyle); brother, George Donaldson (Virginia); Fifteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren, along with lifelong friends, Bobby Green, Barry “Bub” Jones, Ricky Perry, Greg Hambright “Willie”, and Phillip Jones.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home on Monday, August 21, 2023.
Red’s funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Sunrise Baptist Church, 208 Mail Road Kings Mountain, with Pastor Dennis Harmon and Timmy Reynolds officiating.
Interment will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, NC, serving as pallbearers are JJ Cogdell, DJ Smith, Tyler Walker, Michael Donaldson, Chris Donaldson, Hunter Blanton, Lil' Rick Perry.
