Lewis Thomas Tiggler, Jr
"LT"
Deacon Lewis Thomas Tiggler, Jr was born July 6, 1933, in Pike County, Molena, Georgia to the parents of Deacon Lewis Thomas Tiggler, Sr., and Ivy Viola Prothro Tiggler. Lewis joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Molena at an early age and later the Eighth Street Baptist Church.
Lewis was a dedicated church worker who served in many capacities. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Deacons, Chairman of the Mission, Deacon Advisor of the Youth Choir, member of the Christian Board of Education, Chairman of Men's Ministry, member of the Trustee Board, member of the Finance Committee, Financial Secretary, and Advisor to Deaconess and Mothers Board.
Whenever he was called upon, he was there to assist in any way possible at the Eighth Street Baptist Church, and as well in the community. Deacon Tigger served as president of the American Baptist Churches of the South Men for Area III and member of the Region Board of Directors. Lewis was a lifetime member of the NAACP.
For many years, he was a member of the American Legion. He served as the President of the local American Legion chapter. He also served as Adjutant for the State of Georgia and the Treasurer for the state.
He worked for the United States Post Office in Indiana. When his father became ill, he moved back to Griffin, Ga. He also worked for the United States Post Office in Atlanta when he first moved back. He retired from Osmose Wood Preserving Company where he worked as Shipping Supervisor for 41 years. Lewis also had worked several jobs at one time. He also worked at the Griffin Elks Club, Bank South, Bank of America, and United Bank. In his retirement years, he worked at the Deck Club until he was 89 and ½ years old.
On March 28, 2025, Deacon Tiggler departed this life at Eternal Hope Hospice. The Lord took the hands of one very faithful servant and said, "Job well done". As a dedicated father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, deacon, and friend, Deacon Lewis T. Tiggler, Jr will be truly missed by loved ones he leaves behind here on earth. However, he will be greeted in Heaven with open arms by his mother, father, aunts, uncles, cousins and most importantly by our Lord and Savior.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his beloved wife, Patricia Lucille Demons Tiggler of 55 years; four daughters, Kim (Anthony) Coggins, Erica (Ron) Edgerson, Andrea Jackson, and Eugenia (John) Heard; six granddaughters, Autumn (Freddie), Jasmine, Alexandria, Lauren, Lenox, and Savannah; three grandsons, Nicolas, Ethan, and Anthony II.; four great-grandchildren, Anihus, Gabrielle, Eden, and Liam; brother-in law, Dr. Samuel (Sandra) Demons; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
