Lillian Avadanian Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 1, 2017.
Lillian Frances Veronica "Wing Ding" (Buckley) Avadanian, formerly of Lynn and presently of Salisbury Beach, MA, died peacefully surrounded by her family on July 29, 2017 after a brief illness. The wife of George "Abba" Avadanian, she has shared 70 years of a beautiful marriage. Fran was the daughter of the late William and Winifred (Condon) Buckley. Born on June 2, 1925, Fran spent 92 years fulfilled in the roles of a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, Godmother, sister, cousin, and "Boss".

A graduate of Lynn Classical High School, her career started at 17 in Lynn's Original Anthony's Hawthorne heading on her way to 30 years as the hostess at the Continental Restaurant - and then moving on up to Salisbury's famous Butch's Club Royale where lives were never the same….in a good way! Known for her famous red lipstick and banana breads, her loves were the beach, traveling, Las Vegas, Foxwoods, and visiting Ireland and Canada. However, anyone who really knew Fran, knew that besides her family, her #1 loves were the NY Yankees, Tony Bennett, and Mickey Mantle (#7), all of whom she had personal friendships with.

Fran leaves behind her beloved daughters, Francie Sudak and Claire Cavanagh and has now joined her late "Golden Boy" Michael "Abba" Avadanian. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, and Johnny McSharry, Megan and Casey Sudak and great-grandchildren: Lily and O'Neil Sudak. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Ellen and the late Bob Avadanian and family; countless devoted friends including Bob and Judy Kerton and Wendy Atwood.

The sister of the late Ruth and Roger Heaslip, Eleanor and Ed Gertaowski, Claire and Jim O'Shea, William and Marilyn Buckley, and Charles and Joan Fox and her special late friends, Barbara and Skip McDonnell and Fr. Thomas Morgan.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. LYNN on Monday, August7, 2017 at 1 pm. Burial will be held privately. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visiting Hours prior to the service from 11 am to 1 pm. At Fran's request, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to either: A.L.S., St. Jude's Hospital, or the Salisbury Beach Betterment Assoc.

Bill and I extend our heartfelt sympathy to the three generations of the Avadanian family as they grieve the loss of their wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
I personally would like to thank Lillian and her husband "Abba" for being such phenomenal parents, bringing their beautiful daughter, Francie, into the world and into my life. Francie has been and continues to be a true blessing, inspiring me and countless others.
After listening to Lillian's eloquent eulogy, I now know Francie is a reflection of her mother and I also know Francie will continue to make Lillian shine, carrying on Wing Ding's legacy.

Dear Claire, Francine and Abba, In 1969 during the Caggiano campaign I had the pleasure of meeting your wonderful family. I will never forget how kind and helpful Wing Ding was to me. She was a treasure. The memories that I have from Butchs will never fade. The jukebox to those stairs that your mom helped me down bring a smile to my face. Your mother was someone who never forgot where she came from. She was a very special lady. I am sorry that I will be unable to attend the service as I am away with Sandy and Ashley. When you think of Wing Ding remember the immortal words of the late Charley Chaplin... Smile

In the Summer of 1947 as a 16 year old student and Hampton Beach dishwasher...I attended a pre marriage party at Butch's immortal Club Royale. The bride to be was Lillian. From that day on I consdered her a friend... and, it has been my good fortune to have known her and to have spoken with her hundreds of times over that all too short seventy years. We celebrate her great life, of course. But. we will also greatly miss her presence.

Wing you were always the life of the party when I vacationed in Salisbury. Claire, Terry, Diane and I always had the best times at Butch's. You were always trying to fix us up with someone! You were such a hot ticket! I know you are now surrounded by family, friends and knowing you, also Mickey Mantle and Frank Sinatra! You'll be missed!
