Mrs. Lillian Sandefur Overholt March 15, 1936 - October 21, 2025 Mrs. Lillian Sandefur Overholt, age 89 of New Tazewell, departed this life on October 21, 2025, at the age of 89, at the Claiborne Health and Rehab, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family. Born on March 15, 1936, to Herbert and Ruth Lambert Sandefur, who precede her death.
Lillian's journey through life was shared with her beloved husband, the late Estle Overholt, with whom she built a family and a legacy of compassion. She gracefully bore the loss of her parents, her brother Jack Sandefur, and her sister Peggy Price and her husband James. She was also preceded in death by her esteemed in-laws, Vernon and Flossie Overholt, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dee and Shirley Overholt, and her nephew Jim Overholt and his wife Linda.
Her memory will be lovingly cherished by her devoted son Eddie Overholt and his wife Rebecca, and her adored grandson Tyler Overholt and his wife Taylor. Lillian's spirit lives on through her nieces Marilyn Minton and her husband Richard, Jackie Pratt and her husband David, and Angela Parker and her husband Sammy; her nephew Wayne Overholt and his wife Sharon; and her sister-in-law Peggy Sandefur. Lillian was blessed with enduring friendships, notably with Christine Rosenbalm, who stood by her side for over six decades, Etta Jane Norris, her close friend whom she looked forward to seeing each day, Rondie Fultz and wife Marie, Mary Smith, Elbert and Lylus DeBusk, Paul and Sherry Downing, Brenda Welch and Joyce Sweet, who were not just friends but family in spirit. Several special first cousins, friends, relatives and church family.
Throughout her life, Lillian was a beacon of support and comfort to many, dedicating her time to assisting families in their time of need at the funeral home. She found joy and purpose in her work across various factories over the years, her industrious nature contributing to the fabric of the local industry.
Lillian's Christian faith was the cornerstone of her existence. A long-standing member of the Blairs Creek Baptist Church, she later attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where she continued to nurture her spiritual life and fellowship. She always looked forward to attending Sunday school and to fellowship with those at church.
An avid gardener, Lillian's love for nature was evident in the meticulous care she took of her lawn, creating a sanctuary of beauty and tranquility that reflected her inner grace. Her friendly smile and warm demeanor left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of crossing her path.
Lillian will be remembered as a woman whose life was a living example of loving-kindness. Her legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of those she touched, like the immaculate gardens she so lovingly tended. Her departure leaves behind a void, but her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to her family, friends, and the Tazewell community she so dearly loved.
We would like to extend a thank you to the dedicated staff of Claiborne Health and Rehab, she considered the staff to be just like family. Also a thank you to the staff of SunCrest Hospice for the care that was extended to Lillian.
The family will receive friends Sunday October 26, 2025, from 5:00pm till 7:00pm in the Claiborne ~ Overholt Funeral Home Chapel with funeral service to follow at 7:00pm with Rev. John Lewis and Rev.
