Shirley L. Overholt, age of 74 born on December 16, 1950, in Middlesboro, KY. passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025 in Tazewell, TN. at the Claiborne Medical Center.
Shirley's life was defined by her roles as a mother, grandmother, and friend. Her family was her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Geneva Pressnell, her loving husband Dee Overholt, her daughter Sonya Cupp, and step-son Jim and (Linda) Overholt. Her legacy continues through her daughters, Sharon Fields and Selena & husband Ernie Hatmaker; step-son, Wayne & wife Sharon Overholt. Shirley's joy was multiplied by her grandchildren, Sheridan, Sophia, and Ernest Hatmaker, who will carry forward her teachings and love. Shirley is also survived by her step- grandchildren: Melissa Merrell & husband Dave, Amanda Duncan & husband Dwight, Clyde Overholt, Shae Harmon & husband Steve, and Chase "Odie" Overholt and fiancée Taylor Buchanan. Step- great grandchildren Ivey Grace Murrell, Lannie Mae Overholt, Josie Mallony, and Abby and Garrett Harmon. She also held a special place in her heart for her bonus daughter, Eva King Croft. Aunt Louise Pressnell, along with numerous cousins, relatives, and friends, will fondly remember Shirley's unwavering support and the care she extended to all.
The loss of Shirley will be deeply felt by many, but her spirit will continue to live on through the memories she created and the love she shared. Her life was a testament to the beauty of a kind soul dedicated to family, faith, and community. She was a member of the Riverview Baptist Church for many years. Shirley's impact will be cherished, and her memory will be honored by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
As we bid farewell to Shirley, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love and grace. Her journey on this earth may have concluded, but her story will be recounted with joy and her presence will forever be felt in the lives she has touched. The family will receive friends Monday, May 5, 2025 from 5pm till 7pm in the Claiborne~ Overholt Funeral Home Chapel with funeral service to follow at 7pm with Rev. Todd Peoples and Rev. Tommy Russell officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11am on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 in the Riverview Cemetery. Pallbearers: Ernest Hatmaker, Chris Bolen, Chase "Odie" Overholt, Clyde Overholt, Dwight Duncan and Brian Russell.
