Sister Lillian "Ginger" Pannozza, formerly Sr. Mary Cabrini, age 88 and a Sister of Mercy for 68 years, died peacefully on May 14, 2025, at the Grimes Center, New Haven, CT. She was the daughter of the late James and Lillian (Almstead) Pannozza.
Sister Ginger was born in Mt. Vernon, NY attending schools in Mt. Vernon and Danbury, CT. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in Madison, CT in 1957.
After her profession in 1960, Sr. Ginger worked in several ministries of the Sisters of Mercy: Highland Heights - St Francis Home for Children, New Haven; parish ministry in Pinehurst, North Carolina and St. Lawrence O'Toole in Hartford; Program Director at Saint Mary Home in West Hartford; Co-Administrator and Registrar at Mercy Center at Madison; and the Shoreline Visiting Nurses.
Sister Ginger was predeceased by her brother James and is survived by her sister-in-law Kay Pannozza; her niece Dawn and her nephew Jimmy; and the Joseph and Lynn Futschik family cousins, connected by Sister Ginger's loving Aunt Mary Pannozza Mainolfi and Uncle Pat Mainolfi. Sister Ginger enjoyed many happy occasions of holiday and birthday celebrations in Ansonia and Derby. She is survived by her religious community, the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, and the 87 Gerrish Avenue community in East Haven.
The Sisters of Mercy would like to acknowledge the excellent care and compassion provided by the doctors and nurses, health care aides and caregivers from St. Raphael Hospital, U.S. Renal Care, and the Grimes Center and Hospice at Home.
The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Saint Mary Home, 2021 Albany Ave. West Hartford, CT. A wake service and calling hour at 10:00 a.m. will precede the Mass of the Resurrection. Committal will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery on the West Hartford campus.
