Lillian Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Patton Funeral Home - Huntsville on Jul. 21, 2025.
Lillian Smith, 94, of Moberly, Missouri, passed away peacefully with her girls by her side on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Meadow Ridge Senior Living.

She was born on October 8, 1930, in Somerville, Tennessee, the daughter of Aubrey Gaither and Edna (Price) Gaither. On March 9, 1951, Lillian was united in marriage to Paul Everett Smith in Somerville. They shared a life filled with love, adventure, and deep devotion until his passing.

Lillian was a proud homemaker who lovingly raised her family and took great joy in creating a warm, welcoming home. She and Paul made it a goal to visit all 50 states, and she remained incredibly proud of their travels. Lillian also had a love for growing flowers and cherished time spent with her family. She was a long-time member of Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church in Darksville, where her faith was a cornerstone of her life.

She is survived by her three daughters, Paula Overfelt of Kansas City, MO, Libby Adler of Moberly, MO, and Linda Smith of Overland Park, KS; five grandchildren, Jeremy Overfelt (Katie), Chris Adler (Shauna), Geoffrey Overfelt (Shaunna), Scott Adler (Becky), and Carrie White (Dan); 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Pat Gaither, along with several nieces and nephews.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; and her two brothers, Robert Lee Gaither and wife Fran and Aubrey Gaither, Jr; and son-in-law, Fred Adler.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Patton Funeral Home in Huntsville, MO, with Pastor Cliff Day officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO. Memorial contributions are suggested to Wreaths Across America or the Jacksonville Assistance League.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the care givers at Meadow Ridge Senior Living and her home healthcare nurses and therapist.
