Lillian Lorene Wright Lyles, age 95, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025.
Born November 11, 1929 in Roanoke Rapids, NC at 729 Jefferson Street, she was the daughter of Joseph Dallas Wright and Annie Bettie Hale Wright.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Herman Lyles "Buddy"; her son, Archie Herman Lyles, Jr.; her daughter, Belinda Kay Plyler; and her son-in-law, James Kenneth Elliott (J.K.); her siblings, Helen Medlin Harris, Joseph Martin Wright, Julia Wright Parker, Nellie Wright Edwards, and James Edward Wright.
She is survived by her son, Michael Wayne Lyles (Marlene); her daughter-in-law, Marianne Lyles Elliott; her son-in-law, Tim Plyler (Cindy); her grandchildren, Michelle Lyles Imber (Chris), Crystal Gregory Pritchard (Kramer), Lindsey Lyles Goble (Thomas), James Dallas Lyles (Allison), James Colby Lyles (Emily), Cassie Lyles Otto (Joshua); her great-grandchildren, Ashley Rockwell (Chase), Taylor Fennell, Lilly, Kanen and Banks Pritchard, James, Kate Stone, Annie and Lizzie Goble, Jameson and Sophie Lyles, Archie, Walker and Brady Lyles and Eleanor Otto and many nieces and nephews.
She attended Rosemary School, Central School and then went on to graduate from Roanoke Rapids High School in 1948. She was a member of the girls' basketball team and the Civil Air Patrol. She then married on her birthday, November 11, 1948 to "Buddy" and began her life as a wife and mother. Lorene spent the majority of her working career at Clark's Department Store and Roanoke Rapids High School Cafeteria where she was known for her sweet tea! She retired in 2004. She was a lifelong member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Roanoke Rapids where she was known for her potato salad. Grandma, as she was called by family and friends, was the heart of her family. She was a care taker who put others' needs before her own.
Funeral services will be held at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.
Entombment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends before the service on Saturday at the funeral home at 1:00 PM.
