Lillie Lee Pierce Gregory was the youngest born to the late James Zollie and Rossie Lee Simmons Pierce on September 9, 1934. She transitioned to her new life on June 16, 2020.
Lillie attended the Fayetteville City Schools and graduated from E. E. Smith Senior High School with the class of 1953. She also graduated from Fayetteville State Teacher's College now known as Fayetteville State University in 1957. She was raised in the College Heights community and baptized at Mount Sinai Baptist Church where she was a very active and devoted member. She served as a deaconess, church clerk, Bible School teacher, usher, Pastor's Aid Ministry member, and Seniors with a Purpose Ministry member (SWAP). She taught in North Carolina (Robeson and Cumberland Counties), Columbus, Georgia and Denver, Colorado. She was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. the VFW, Fayetteville State University Alumni Association, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Cumberland County Retired teacher, Senior Road Runners and Martin Luther King Committee-founding board member. Lillie was very active and dedicated in all that she did until her health hindered her participation.
Lillie was preceded in death by four sisters (Sarah, Ethel, Elline, and Loree) and four brothers (John, James "Billie", Jimmie, and Earl).
Lillie leaves to celebrate her life: her loving and devoted husband, Harlon Gregory; her beloved sister, E. Dorine Pierce McLaurin; her sisterly niece; Perbena Walker; her devoted niece Rossie Clagett, C. Shadawn Clagett, and Carolyn Walker who aided and assisted her during her failing health; A host of other very special nieces and nephews; and other family and friends. She was a godmother to some of her nieces and nephews but covered them all with her protective love and support.
