In loving memory of Genevieve Davis, who died peacefully at Columbia/St. Mary's Hospital in Milwaukee on January 4, 2024. Genevieve was fiercely independent with an indomitable spirit. She graduated Beloit College with a BA in Art and obtained an MFA at the University of Wisconsin. She made a living from her art, working in multiple media including painting, photography, film, sculpture, and jewelry. She also authored two books which paid tribute to each of her grandmothers. She is survived by her brother Robert and his family, Patricia Smith, Jennifer Davis, and Caitlin Davis.

I learned from the Beloit College Magazine two weeks ago that Genevieve had passed in January. (She got prickly if I called her Linda.) We were good friends for over 50 years so it seems odd that I didn´t feel her leaving in my bones.

Her art was as uncompromising as she was. I loved her painting, her writing, her costumes, her movies, her acting, her dancing, and I loved her.

The last time we saw each other was in Muskegon, MI, towards the end of the pandemic. We spent the day walking on the beach, hiking in the forest, and touring a unique, historic mansion. It was a fantastic day.

Condolences to her family.

I left fresh flowers on Linda's dorm door every day during summer term 1971 at Beloit College. Marcy, Diane, Linda and I shared an apartment at 1323 Wisconsin for a year in 1972-3. I will miss her.
