Linda Delay passed away peacefully at home on December 13 after a brief illness.
Linda was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Richard Delay, her parents, John and Alice Armstrong of Bennington, and sisters, Edna Armstrong and Marilyn Dunlap. She is survived by her three children, Cheryl (George) of Averill Park, NY, Kathleen (Kevin) Reardon of New Boston, and Richard Jr. (Melissa) Delay of Merrimack, grandchildren Nathan, Andrew, Katie, Megan, Drew, Matthew, and Sage, and many nieces and nephews.
Linda was a lifelong resident of Bennington, where she was active in the Historical Society, Recreation Department, and Fire Department Auxiliary. Over the years, Linda’s creativity was on display at many of the floats at Old Home Day parades.
After her children went to school, Linda worked at GTE Sylvania for 20 years and then managed the books for Delay’s Market in Greenfield.
Linda was extremely creative, from making fanciful birthday cakes and party crafts, sewing clothes, costumes, and doll clothes, knitting, making Christmas ornaments, and more.
Linda and Richard enjoyed traveling. They have fond memories of the trips with the AG Grocers, where they visited many Caribbean islands, and their trips to Disney with their family.
Linda and Richard spent many winters at the Villages in Florida, where Linda took up golf. They were active with their friend group, golfing, playing cards, and dancing in the square.
In 2022, she moved to Carlyle Place in Bedford, where she made many new friends and was an avid participant in activities and day trips. Until her days before her death, she could still beat you in cribbage.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord Street, Peterborough, with a burial in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Bennington Historical Society.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff from Carlyle Place for the extraordinary care and support they provided every day with love, respect, and dignity.
