Linda Lee Fenner, 77, long-time resident of Winchester, VA died in Arlington, MA on Friday, June 7, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Born on February 24, 1947, in Potter Brook, PA of the late LeRoy and Vivian (Clark) Stermer, she was the youngest of seven children. After graduating among the top in her high school class, she continued to prioritize education and received degrees from Penn State and American University in Washington, DC, where she met her husband, Stanley D. Fenner. The two married in August 1970 and shared almost 46 years together before Stan's passing on June 6, 2016.
A loving sister, wife, mother, and "Mamoo," Linda is survived by her children, Angela Elias (Jeffrey) and Nathan Fenner; Stan's children, Gordon Fenner, Randall Fenner, Suzanne Carman and Geoffrey Fenner (Stephanie); grandchildren Aidan and Allison; Stan's grandchildren Gage, Alyssa, Lauren, Lillian, and Wesley; sister, Alyce Moyer and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, Linda is preceded in death by sisters Ruthanne Fuller and Betty Mack and brothers Ronald, Henry and Edmond Stermer.
Throughout her adult life, Linda was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and she served a long tenure as a preacher's wife at various United Methodist Churches in Pennsylvania, Florida, and Michigan. While raising her two children, Linda completed a PhD in Education Administration. She promoted learning as a board member of the Willard Public Library in Battle Creek, MI, and a volunteer at public schools in Michigan and Virginia.
After many years working for the United States Department of Defense, she retired to Winchester, VA where she remained an active member of the community until relocating to Massachusetts to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She loved traveling, finding new recipes, reading mystery novels and cheering at her grandchildren's soccer games.
In celebration of her life, family will receive friends in Winchester, VA on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, from 5 to 6:30pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel and there will be a memorial service on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 10am at Greenwood United Methodist Church, where Linda was a member. Interment will be in Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, VA.
In lieu of flowers, Linda requested family and friends consider donating to the Foundation Fighting Blindness (www.fightingblindness.org).
