Linda Schlais (Cramer) ObituaryThe family of Linda Schlais announces her passing on July 3, 2025, following her most recent cancer diagnosis, one she faced not with fear, but with a quiet kind of acceptance, teaching us all how to live through adversity, without ever giving in to it, but living it through grace and gratitude.
Linda was born in Duluth, MN, on June 21, 1947 (always be reminded of her on the first day of summer). After traveling the country as a young child during her father's years in the Navy, they returned to Superior, WI area where she spent most of her childhood and young adult life. There, she met and married James Knick, and together they raised their three children, eventually moving to Menasha, WI in 1976. In this time, she also became a registered nurse that started a lifelong career and passion in life to always "make the world better than you found it" by helping people in big and small ways. She worked the majority of her nursing career at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Appleton, WI. Following her husband James death (1985), she was blessed to have met, and married Gus Schlais. Upon Gus' retirement from the Menasha Police Department in 1999, they moved to Beecher, WI. There, Linda expanded her nursing role as well as giving back to the community through her school nurse role with the Pembine School District for the next ten years. She also worked supporting residents at Maryhill Manor Nursing Home in Niagara, WI. But even more than her professional accomplishments was her quiet and constant dedication of being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Linda will be remembered for her ability to make people feel seen and valued. Whether it was cooking a meal for someone in need or opening her home for the gathering of friends and family, her goal was to make people feel welcome and taken care of, which she always did.
A small private family gathering will be held to lay her to rest. The family asks that you take a moment to not only remember Linda but do something in her name as an act of random kindness to honor her and the ability she knew each person had to make the world a better place one day and one act at a time. Linda didn't need grand gestures to make an impact-she simply believed that each day offered a chance to show up for others, one small act of kindness at a time. She understood the power of presence and that we can all find ways to be the change we want to see in the world.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband James Knick; parents Margaret and Norman Cramer; in-laws Nan and Ken Knick and Josephine and Elmer Schlais; sister-in-law Jill Coons; brother-in-law John Knick.
She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years Gus Schlais; children Amy (Jim) Sommerville; Brady (Carrie) Knick; Dustin (Megan) Knick; special family member Diamond Rhodes; grandchildren Jacob (Loryn) Sommerville; Amanda (Lucas) St Mary; Nathan Knick, Kallie Knick, Tristin (Lanna) Gagne, Savanna (Andrew) Gagne, Maci Knick, Kenley Knick; and great grandchildren: Genevieve, Jack, Eleanore Sommerville; Axel Gagne
The family would like to especially thank those who helped care for Linda at NEWCare Center in Crivitz, WI and especially those serving the community through Unity Hospice.
