Linda Jean Smith

Linda Jean (Gastonguay) Smith, age 81, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late R. Bruce Smith with whom she enjoyed 48 years of marriage until his passing in 2014.
She was born in Newton on October 21, 1944, and was the daughter of the late Arthur and Vila (Noddin) Gastonguay.
Linda Jean dedicated her time to her two passions, theater and gardening. She worked with both the Chelmsford High School Drama Club as well as the Westford Academy Drama Club and spent decades involved with the Massachusetts Educational Drama Guild, an organization that supports theater education throughout the state. She has been a member of the Open Gate Garden Club in Chelmsford since she moved to Chelmsford in the late 1960's and served as president for several recent years. In addition, she served on the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, as President for a while, and was also a facilitator for the gardening schools run by the National Garden Club for many years.
Linda is survived by her son Curtis Smith and his wife Laurie of Pepperell; her two daughters Michelle Smith and her wife Melissa Mercon-Smith of Hopedale and Leslie Day and her husband Brian of Sienna, Texas. She was also the proud grandmother of Elizabeth Smith.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025 from 2 pm to 3:30 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford. Her Funeral Service will follow the visitation at 3:30 pm in the funeral home. Interment will be held privately.
