Lionel Arsement Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Broussard's Mortuary - McFaddin Avenue on Nov. 19, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Lionel "Butch" Arsement Jr., son of Lionel Joseph Arsement Sr. and Evelyn Mae Wagner, passed away peacefully on the night of November 17th, 2025, at Baylor St. Luke's Hospital, after putting up a good, stubborn fight against a failing heart for two full weeks. He was 79 years old, born on Christmas Eve of 1945, a fitting arrival for a man who brought warmth, humor, and an unmistakable spark into every room he entered.

Butch is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Carolyn Arsement, who faithfully stood by his side through every adventure, every challenge, and every joke he insisted on repeating. He also leaves behind his daughter, Michelle Gillette and her husband, Chuck, and son, Brent Arsement and his wife, Stacie-each of whom carries a piece of his quick wit and generous heart. He is further survived by his sister, Judy Radcliff, and her husband, Pat, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and his cherished Rockin' A family.

His love lives on in his grandchildren:
Tara Graham (husband Derek), Brendan Gillette, Jakob Arsement (wife Grace), Zackery Arsement (wife Kera), and Sarah Klussmann (husband Thomas).

And in his great-grandchildren:
Tristan Pierson, Kane Graham, Jenson Gillette, Atlas Graham, Samuel Arsement, Charlie Klussmann, Mercy Arsement, and one on the way. Each of whom brought him immeasurable joy-and provided plenty of fresh material for his stories.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Dian Vickers and Jeanelle Street.

A proud member of the Nederland High School Class of 1964, Butch spent his life working hard, dreaming big, and feeding both stomachs and spirits. He was the former owner of Price and Company, and later opened Rockin' A Café, his version of a "retirement" plan. There, he shared his love of food with the community, greeting patrons with the same enthusiasm he brought to everything-often making his rounds just to swap stories, check on folks, and deliver a punchline or two. Customers quickly became friends, and friends often became family.

Butch was a man of many interests and even more opinions. He loved tending to his cattle, cheering for his racehorses, placing a friendly sports bet (or a not-so-friendly one, depending on the score), scrolling TikTok with surprising proficiency for someone his age, and dominating solitaire like it was an Olympic sport. Through it all, he remained a loving provider-full of stories, jokes, wisdom, and a generosity that touched countless lives.

To know Butch was to be blessed by his kindness, his laughter, and his way of making everyone feel like they belonged at his table. His legacy is one of love, family, hard work, and the kind of humor that could lift even the heaviest hearts.

He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished by the many people whose lives he brightened.

A graveside service for the family will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, 618 Block Street, Port Neches.

All are invited to a Celebration of Life following at 4:00 pm at Rockin' A Café, 3520 West Cardinal Drive, Beaumont.
