Born in Chicago, Barry graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep at age sixteen. He was offered a scholarship to Stanford, but his mother did not want her young son to live so far away from home. He attended University of Illinois of Chicago for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Army. Barry completed basic training in Huntsville, Alabama, then served as a Chemical Corps Specialist in Germany and Panama during the first Desert Storm. After his service, Barry returned to UIC to complete his Political Science and Government degree. For the past ten years, he served as an IT Technician for Constellation Brands. Previously, he worked at Heidrick & Struggles, First American Title Life Insurance Co, General Growth Properties, and AON Corporation.
Barry loved house music and soccer. He followed Manchester United and the stock market and was obsessed with the following Chicago sports teams: the White Sox, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks. Barry had a huge collection of White Sox baseball hats and other sports memorabilia and loved wearing a suit every day.
Barry and his wife enjoyed time together in their summer cabin in Minocqua, Wisconsin and traveled recently to Croatia and Austria. They have also enjoyed many other trips around the U.S. and The World.
Beloved spouse and best friend of fourteen years (together for sixteen) of Kimberly Sue Dwan-Collins.
Loving son of Leona Smith of Las Vegas and the father of Lionel Barrymore III, Kyle, Kennedy, Ryan, Braeden, MacKinzie, and Christian Collins. Son-in-law of Suzanne and Mike Simonar. He also has many aunts, uncles, and cousins that loved him.
Preceded in death by his father Lionel Barrymore Collins and in-laws Allen and Susan Dwan.
