Lisa Barbera MD of Pelham, New York passed away on July 18, 2022. She was 71 years old. Born in Coney Island Hospital to Joseph and Bruna Barbera, Lisa was the youngest of two children. Lisa was raised in Brooklyn where she attended St Agnes Seminary. She continued her education in Vassar College before making history as the first female medical student at Columbia University. Lisa graduated Columbia University in 1977. She worked as as an ophthalmologist for Columbia University hospital while also teaching at Columbia University.
Lisa was a caregiver at heart. While working at Columbia she lived with and took care of her parents Joseph and Bruna. In her spare time Lisa loved to play tennis at the NYAC, read medical journals and spend time with her family.
Lisa will be remembered as a feisty and hardworking woman. She always graduated top of her class and had a passion for learning.
Lisa is survived by her brother William Barbera and her sister in law Kathy. She will be missed by her nephew; Billy and his wife Christine Barbera, her niece Bridget and husband Anthony Lekas. She will also be missed her her grand nephews, John & William and her grand niece Lydia.
A celebration of Lisa's life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, New York on Wednesday July 20th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Interment will take place at Greenwood Union Cemetery on Thursday July 21st at 10:00am. For more information or to leave a condolence please visit www.pelhamfuneral.com
