Lisa Carol Hatcher Carr, age 56, died in Searcy January 26, 2014. She was born May 23, 1957 in Pontiac, Michigan. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Tom Carr of Searcy; four children, Jesse Carr of Nashville, Tenn., Jamie Carr, Mary Carr, Betsy Carr Ganus and husband, Kevin, all of Searcy. Her parents, Gene and Wanda Hatcher of Franklin, Tenn., three sisters, Diane Kilmer and Judy Ide, both of Franklin and Jan Hatcher of San Diego, California also survive her. She was a graduate of Lake Orion High School in Lake Orion, Michigan and was the senior class president. She was an alumna of Harding University and a graduate of Texas Tech University in 1980 with a degree in secondary education. She and her husband were married July 29, 1978 and moved to Lubbock, Texas. In 1980 the couple moved to Tallahassee, Florida where he earned his Master's degree at Florida State University. In the summer of 1982, the couple moved to Spring Hill, Tennessee where they lived for the next 20 years. The couple's four children were born in Tennessee. She home schooled the children through most of the primary and secondary education years. While living in Tennessee, the family worshiped at the Forest Home Church of Christ where Tom was an elder and Lisa was a Sunday school teacher. She was passionate about her faith and never let an opportunity pass by to share it with others. She was a student of the Bible and dedicated to prayer. She was devoted to her family and friends. In 2005 the Carr family moved to Searcy and the Downtown Church of Christ became the family's church home. One year later she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She often commented that in spite of the challenges of the disease, the last seven years were some of the best of her life. She began a Bible study in her home for college women and treasured the time she shared with them in study and prayer. She also was a sponsor of Harding's Pi Theta Phi women's social club until her death. During the last seven years of her life she traveled with her husband to Africa and made a long anticipated trip to Switzerland. She also spoke at the Pepperdine University lectures and the Harding Lectureship. Music was an important part of her life. She played the piano and was a prolific songwriter. Almost all of her songs are expressions of her personal faith. Some of her songs about the biblical story of the prodigal son were made into a play, The Prodigals, which was first performed in 2012. Her dream was to have the play performed for many audiences in the coming years. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to either IHCF African Christian Hospitals, 102 N. Locust. Searcy, Arkansas 72143 or Covenant Fellowship Church (for the Prodigals Ministry), P.O. Box 8126 Searcy, Arkansas 72143. Both are located in Searcy. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 31st at 4:00 p.m. at Downtown Church of Christ in Searcy. Visitation will be following the service.
