Lisa Bonita Hoffmann

Lisa Bonita Hoffmann of Equinunk, PA passed from this earth into the presence of her Heavenly Father on Wednesday January 21, 2026. Born on April 16, 1963 she was the daughter of the late Vilho and Gertrude (Ruth) Makela of Hankins, NY.

Lisa and her loving husband Tim were married on September 12, 1981. Together they raised two children. Lisa loved teaching receiving her Masters in education from Marywood University. Additionally, becoming a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst in her later years. She retired as an elementary school teacher from Sullivan West Central School District in 2024. She loved guiding her students to reach their full potential. Her passion for learning carried into her retirement where she continued to tutor and attend classes. She instilled a love of learning in her grandchildren through teaching them reading, writing, math, carrying on traditions such as baking, crocheting, crafting, a love of nature, patriotism and most importantly a strong foundation in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Lisa loved the outdoors, and spent many hours at home on the Upper Delaware River, bow hunting with her husband Tim, and taking walks with her family. Above all, Lisa loved God and found her daily strength in the finished work of Christ.

She leaves behind her beloved husband of 44 years, her cherished children Julie Matz (Joshua), Matthew Hoffmann, (Karey) and will be missed by her grandchildren Ava, Bella, Gabriel (Matz), Ellis, Josie and Judah (Hoffmann). She also leaves behind her brother Scott Makela (Georgia), and sisters Jill Ciaccio (Alfonse) and Jodi Peters (Keith) along with several nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 29th at Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale, 4 to 7. A celebration of life will be held on April 25th at Thrive Church, 10 to 12.
