Lisa McGlothlen Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Lisa Ann (Bell) McGlothlen passed away on August 2, 2025, in Denver, Colorado.
Lisa was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on January 6, 1965, to Thomas Francis Bell and Elizabeth Catherine (Hess) Bell. She grew up in and cherished the Des Moines Beaverdale neighborhood. As a student at Hoover High School, she was an accomplished swimmer and established friendships that would last her lifetime. Upon graduating, she attended Iowa State University before completing her degree at Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design. Lisa then worked as a museum curator for a period, and her discerning sense of style and design continues to influence the lives and homes of her friends, and her own home, today.
While living in Raleigh, North Carolina, Lisa took a job in human resources and turned it into a successful 16-year career with Ceridian. There, she proudly overperformed in the roles of payroll services, sales, and as an account executive while living in both Minneapolis, Minnesota and Denver, Colorado.
With the births of her two daughters, Audrey and Lillian, Lisa's focus shifted to being a loving and dedicated mother. Her drive to perform evolved into driving to her children's performances and she found renewed passion through supporting the Bromwell Elementary Arts Council, decorating for school dances, and coordinating East High School cross-country meets. Lisa's avid love of reading and the arts inspired her engagement in the community, and she greatly enjoyed her time with the Driving Park Historic District Neighborhood book club and the Neighborhood Board Association. In recent years, Lisa also volunteered as a board member for Education Through Music, a nonprofit providing music education to underprivileged children in Denver Public Schools. To all of this, she brought an air of elegance and strength. Her loss will be felt by many.
Lisa was preceded in death by her grandparents, Raymond and Alice Bell, Joseph and Teresa Hess; her father, Thomas Bell and mother, Elizabeth Bell; as well as her uncles, Robert Hess and Greg Hess. She is survived by her husband, Kevin "Woody" and their two daughters, Audrey and Lillian McGlothlen; her brother, Brian Bell (Mary Goughnour); her aunt, Madonna Warton (John); and her uncles, James Hess and Mark Hess (Paul Richards).
A memorial service and celebration of Lisa's life will be held at Iles Dunn's Chapel, 2121 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday, August 23, 2025, with visitation beginning at 3 p.m., and memorial service at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Lisa's name to the animal shelter Humane Colorado (formerly the Denver Dumb Friends League), and/or Education Through Music Colorado.
