Lisa Lynn Murrell Myers, 60, of Newport, Tennessee, went to her Heavenly home on October 7, 2025. She had been bravely battling a progressive neurological disease and several other health problems.
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Vonn Ray and Hazel Murrell, and her mother-in-law Anne Myers.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Rob, father-in-law, Harold Myers, siblings, David (Shawna) Murrell, and Amy (Joey) Bradshaw and in-laws, Mike (Shelly) Myers, Russell (Regina) Myers, and Connie (Lisa Parnell) Myers, and a host of special nieces and nephews.
Lisa was born February 18, 1965 in Newport. She attended Newport Grammar School and graduated from Cocke County High School. She graduated from Carson Newman College in 1987 with a degree in Elementary Education with Early Childhood emphasis. She received her MA in Education from Cumberland University.
After graduating from Carson Newman, Lisa spent two years teaching in Trousdale County before coming home to teach at NGS. She taught Kindergarten until 2005 when she was asked to establish the Voluntary Pre-K program at NGS. She was the Director and taught Pre-K until her health forced her to retire in 2022. She loved the children she worked with and poured herself into helping them learn and build confidence.
Lisa was a member of First Baptist Newport where she served as a preschool teacher, Mission Friends leader, Acteens leader, and nursery volunteer. She faithfully served beside her husband, Rob, in the student ministry for more than 25 years. Her quiet faith, strength, compassion, and dedication to Christ impacted multiple generations of children and youth.
Rob and Lisa were introduced by matchmaking teens 34 years ago on a mission trip. They have spent all of the 33 years since trying to make a difference in the lives of those with whom they worked. Lisa said recently her prayer was that she had made a difference in the lives of her students and church "children." That prayer has certainly proven to be true.
Special thanks to our First Baptist Newport family and, also, Libby Kickliter & Jennifer Eisenhower for going above and beyond in caring for Lisa. Thanks to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for compassionate care over the past month.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Newport, TN. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Dr. Rich Lloyd and Dr. Charlie Boggan officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2025, in the Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Building Fund at First Baptist Church in Newport.
Family and friends may sign the guest register at www.manesfuneralhome.com.
