Graydon Mathis

Rev. Graydon "Rabbit" Mathis passed away peacefully on Oct 6, 2025, at the age of 98 surrounded by his family. Graydon was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy and he retired from the National Park Service. Graydon was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Sarah Mathis, his grandson, Carl Peter Mathis, mother Zelma and step father Russell McMahan, brothers Jack Mathis, Sam Clayton McMahan (Martha), Chester McMahan, and Lester McMahan (Geraldine), sisters Bashie McMahan, Lessie Winter, and Pauline Tolley, daughters-in-law, Beverly Mathis and Sherrie Mathis. Graydon is survived by his sons Ralph Mathis, Terry Mathis, and Jerry (Beverly) Mathis, sister Geneva Strom, brothers Roy McMahan, and Creed (Glenda) McMahan, sisters-in-law Sue McMahan and Nell Mathis, brother-in-law Billy Winter also many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a great great grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Graydon was a strong-willed person of deep faith and was always ready to help his family and friends.
A graveside service at the Tritt Cemetery will be announced later.
