Lisa Marie Stephan

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lisa Marie Stephan, born on February 10, 1981, who peacefully left this world on January 9, 2024, after respiratory complications. Lisa was only 42 years old.
Lisa is survived by her sister, Nicole; brother, John; loving mother, Kathleen Stephan of Denver; and father, John Stephan of Troy. Also left to cherish her memory is her sister-in-law, Nicole C Stephan, along with her nieces, Hailey and Sydney, all residing in Denver.
From the very beginning, Lisa faced life with resilience and determination. Early on, she embarked on a journey of Early Intervention education, engaging in physical therapy, occupational therapy, and group programs at Wing Lake Developmental Center in Bloomfield Hills, beginning even before her first birthday. At the age of three, she eagerly hopped on a bus to attend the center's exceptional full-day program, surrounded by caring teachers, aids, and volunteers who enriched her life with instructional and enjoyable activities.
Lisa embraced the joys of life with her family and friends, participating in activities like playing in backyards, swimming, horseback riding, caring for pets, boat rides, bowling, camping, and expressing her creativity through art. She celebrated holidays and family birthdays with enthusiasm, leaving a trail of cherished memories.
At the age of 13, Lisa embarked on a new chapter, joining a residential program at Our Lady of Providence School in Novi. Despite being away during the week, she returned home every weekend until she turned 18. At that point, Lisa transitioned to the Troy Three Lakes family group home, sharing her life with three other residents. She resumed her education at Wing Lake, participating in adult programs until she graduated at 26. Throughout her adult years, she continued her education through various day programs, culminating in her last years at the C.E.O. day program in Macomb County.
Lisa, despite her limitations, had an extraordinary impact on the lives of those around her, touching hearts and leaving an indelible mark. Her almost 43 years were a testament to her strength, resilience, and the love she shared with those fortunate enough to know her.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate Lisa's life will be held this Saturday, January 13th at 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 280 E Square Lake Rd, Troy, MI 48085.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the 5p-Society (https://5psociety.givingfuel.com/5pminusdonation) in Lisa's honor, supporting those with Cri du Chat Syndrome and their families. 5p-Society is a support organization that works diligently to spread awareness and provide valuable information, education and support for families, educators, and medical professionals about the syndrome. It was founded in 1983, and Lisa's family was one of the 5 co-founding families which has grown to over 1k members.
