Lisa Ann Stevens, a devoted professional, passionate advocate, and beloved community member, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center. Born on October 2, 1963, in Rochester, Minnesota, Lisa was the cherished daughter of Randy and Kathy (Tenley) Stevens.
Lisa's educational journey began at Rochester Community College, where she earned her Associate of Arts degree. She continued her academic pursuit with a Bachelor of Arts from Winona State University, followed by a Master of Arts from Mankato State University. Lisa was dedicated to advancing her knowledge and had been in the final stages of earning her PhD (all but dissertation) from the University of Minnesota. On June 23, 2000, Lisa was united in marriage to Troy Stevermer.
Professionally, Lisa made a significant impact through her work as the owner of Stevens Consulting LLC. She previously served as an Executive HR consultant with Personnel Decisions International, contributing her expertise to various organizations. Her commitment to community service was evident in her roles with the West St. Paul Planning Commission/Environmental Committee, as an Election Judge, and as a former campaign manager for a State Senator.
Lisa's dedication to making a difference extended beyond her professional life. She was an avid gardener, a compassionate foster parent for dogs and cats through Safe Hands, and an enthusiastic supporter of local, state, and national politics. Her advocacy for women's rights and her dedication to traveling and spending quality time with her family were central to her life.
A person of deep generosity, Lisa supported Save My Children from a young age and continued her philanthropic efforts throughout her life. She was an ardent donor to various political campaigns and was committed to helping others through organ and tissue donation, in which she was able to help over 100 people.
Lisa is survived by her loving husband, Troy Stevermer; daughter, Olivia Stevermer; brother, Rob (Dawn) Stevens; many nieces and nephews and many others who were touched by her kindness. Lisa was preceded in death by her stillborn daughter, Samantha Mae Stevermer, and by her parents, Randy and Kathy Stevens.
Lisa's legacy will live on through her giving heart, unwavering dedication, and the joy she found in helping others. She will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Lisa's life will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2024 at Peace United Church of Christ, 1503 2nd Ave. NE, Rochester, MN 55906 with Pastor Paul Bauch officiating. I met Lisa at Fred Astair's Dance Studio. She was a great swing dancer. Really burned up the rug. She also threw tremendous parties. My band, Klang!, performed at one of her parties - she was very tolerant of our talent. Another was a Halloween bash where the folks really got into costume - it was hysterical.

Lisa was smart and classy.

On behalf of the Mayor, City Council, Planning Commission, and city staff, the City of West St. Paul sends our condolences. Lisa was appointed to the committee of adjustments/planning commission by Mayor Halverson in April of 2018 and was a consistent and smiling face present at all of the monthly meetings. She was always quick to make a joke to keep the meetings light. However, Lisa was also thoughtful and always asked questions and was thinking about how to continue to make her city a better place for everyone. The loss of her presence and influence will be sincerely mourned, whether it be as an election judge, a liaison to the environmental committee, or planning commissioner, Lisa always showed up for her city and its people. So, it is our honor to say thank you for all of her work and efforts in making a better West St. Paul. She will be missed.
