Shirley Sindelar Obituary

Shirley, daughter of Selmer and Gladys (Olson) Fors, was born November 20, 1937 in Sturgis, South Dakota. After graduating from Sturgis High School in 1956, she married Van Sindelar on October 21, 1956. They moved to Rochester, Minnesota, where they lived for 10 years. They moved to Shakopee, Minnesota, in 1966.
In 1970 she was in the first graduating class of Normandale Junior College, going on to Mankato State University, graduating in 1971. Shirley taught grade school in Shakopee for 23 years.
Her family was her pride and joy. She enjoyed genealogy, knitting, sewing, and quilting. She was treasurer of Numedalslagen Log of America, on the board of Young at Heart, and a member of Valley Evangelical Free Church in Chaska. Van and Shirley traveled frequently, doing volunteer work in several countries, helping to start Robins Nest Orphanage in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
She is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, Van, and great-grandson, Will. She will be missed by her sons: Michael (Sandra), David (Diana), and Kenneth (JoAnn); 9 grandchildren: Jeremy (Sarah), Justin (Molly), Jennifer (Andi) Custer, Sarah (Nathan) Snell, Amy (Sam) Dahl, Luke (Abby), Matthew (Dianna), Sam, and Rachel (fiancé Gradyn Dowling); 14 great-grandchildren: Joel, Vivian, and Ivan Sindelar; Zeke and Isla Sindelar; Eleanor and Jake Custer; Isaiah and Ezra Snell; Talia, Zylah, and Azariah Dahl; Edwin and June Sindelar.
Shirley requests that all memorials be given to Adunarea Sperante Vie (Church of Living Hope) in Pitesti, Romania. Please make checks out to Valley Evangelical Free Church and note Romania memorial in the memo line.
The Reviewal will be held at McNearney-Schmidt Funeral and Cremation, 1220 3rd Avenue East, Shakopee, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Thursday, September 25th.
The Memorial Service for Shirley will be at 11:00 am on Friday, September 26, at Valley Evangelical Free Church, 150 Engler Boulevard, Chaska, with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Light lunch to follow.
