Lloyd "Duke" Watson Jr., a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, in his hometown of Evansville, where he was also born on October 7, 1951. Duke passed away at home peacefully with his family by his side. Duke's life was a testament to the enduring strength of family bonds, the joy of outdoor adventures, and the satisfaction of a career dedicated to service.

Duke was a proud graduate of Reitz High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and developed a work ethic that would serve him well throughout his life. After graduation, he joined the custodial staff for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC), where he worked diligently for over 30 years. His commitment to maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for students and staff alike earned him the respect and appreciation of the entire school community.

Beyond his professional life, Duke was a man of many passions. He found solace in the tranquility of nature, whether he was hunting in the early morning light, casting a line into a serene lake, or navigating the local waterways in his boat. These moments of solitude were only matched by the joy he felt when sharing his love for the outdoors with his beloved grandchildren, Kile, Kody Wilke, and Kaden Smith.

Duke's role as a grandfather was one he embraced with enthusiasm and love. He was a constant presence at school events, sports games, and family gatherings, always ready with a word of encouragement or a gentle tease. His grandchildren will carry with them the memory of his laughter, his stories, and the lessons he taught them, both spoken and lived.

Family was the cornerstone of Duke's life, and he was a loving dad to his daughter, Amber Watson. He instilled in her the values of hard work, integrity, and the importance of family. His sister, Sheila Wink, will remember him as a protective and caring brother, always there for her in times of need. Duke was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Margie Watson Sr., who laid the foundation for the close-knit family he so deeply cherished.

Duke's absence will be felt by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on in the stories told, the memories shared, and the lives he touched. His was a life well-lived, full of purpose, laughter, and an abundance of love. As we say goodbye to Lloyd "Duke" Watson, we celebrate the enduring impact he made on our world and the hearts he warmed throughout his remarkable journey.

Amber and the family would like to thank Heart- to-Heart Hospice for their kindness during this most difficult time. In lieu of flowers please considerer donating to Heart-to-Heart Hospice.
