Deborah Kay (Garrison) Nelson, 74, of Corydon, Indiana, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Baptist Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana.

Debbie was born in Evansville, Indiana, on October 12, 1950, to LeRoy and Patricia (Robey) Garrison. She graduated from Reitz High School in the Class of 1968, where she met the love of her life and husband of 39 years, Paul Martin Nelson.

Debbie and Paul shared a passion for family and adventure, taking their children on countless camping trips to Lake Glendale, Garden of the Gods, Kentucky Lake, and the Smoky Mountains - never stopping in Gatlinburg. Debbie served in several leadership positions in Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 336 at Old North Methodist Church, a cashier and manager at Schnucks, and a manager at Johnson Oil Co and Dollar General. In later years, Debbie's greatest joy came from her six grandchildren, who became the center of her world. She cherished every moment spent with them.

Debbie is survived by her daughters, Julie Nelson (Patrick McHale) of Eastwood, KY, and Karen Nelson of Corydon, IN; her sons, Keith Nelson (Megan) of Mechanicsville, VA, and Brett Nelson (Leslie) of Cabin John, MD; her beloved grandchildren, Shelby DePauw (Stefan), Aria, Andrew, Ani, Tyler, and Aurelia Nelson; and her great-granddaughter, Audrey Rose DePauw; and her sisters Theresa Garrison, Terri Douglas, brother Jeff Garrison and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul M. Nelson, in 2009, and her parents.

Debbie's adult children and eldest granddaughter are hosting a Celebration of Life and a casual catered lunch to honor her beautiful life. We invite friends and family to join us to remember, grieve, visit, and share stories.

The celebration will be held on Sunday, September 14, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Burdette Park, Shelter 18, Evansville, IN. Please feel free to drop in at any time during the event.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Prisms, www.prisms.org/donate/ or to Autism Speaks, www.autismspeaks.org.
