Lloyd Wittenberg, 93, of Effingham, IL, formerly of Stewardson, IL, was called to his heavenly home at 10:23 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at his home in Effingham, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 St. John's Lutheran Church in Effingham, IL. Rev. Gary Fortkamp and Rev. Mike Burdick will be officiating. Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery in Stewardson, IL with military rites. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 prior to the service at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church of Effingham, Trinity Lutheran Church in Stewardson, or the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be shared at www.johnsonandsonsfh.com.

Lloyd was born on November 4, 1931 at home in Stewardson, IL, to Albert Henry and Emma K. (Schultz) Wittenberg. He was baptized November 29, 1931 by Rev. Dautonhaun at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stewardson and was confirmed on March 25, 1945. On August 10, 1958, Lloyd was married to Shirley Mae Doehring by Rev. G.A. Lueck at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Strasburg, IL. They were married for 67 years.

Lloyd served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years during the Korean conflict as a BU2 (Builder) Petty Officer in Cuba, Bermuda, and French Morocco. After his discharge, he returned home to farm. He loved to farm. He was a member of the Stewardson American Legion Wilbur Broughton Post 611 and St. John's Lutheran Church in Effingham.

Lloyd leaves behind his loving wife, Shirley; daughter, Susan (Kevin) Kessler of Stewardson; granddaughters, Casey (Johnny) Trupiano and Karly (Alex) Frohning and great-grandson, Nolan Frohning, all of Effingham; step-granddaughters, Karsyn Kessler of Arthur and Katlyn (Nathan) Doty of Stewardson; and step-great-granddaughter, Kenley Doty.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George, John, Glen, Clarence, and Paul; and sisters, Oma Ferchow and Ella Marie Falk.
