Lois J. Fromm

Lois Jean Fromm, 95, of New Ulm, entered eternal rest on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the New Ulm Medical Center, surrounded by the love and presence of her devoted girls.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – South Chapel, with Pastor Paul Woolverton officiating. Following the service, Lois will be laid to rest beside Herb at the New Ulm City Cemetery/Soldiers Rest.
Visitation will take place from 9:30 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Born on July 16, 1929, in Milford Township, Brown County, Lois was the daughter of Edwin and Lydia (Lippmann) Gluth. She was born and raised on the family farm alongside her nine siblings-a childhood marked by strong family bonds and the simple joys of rural life. Lois attended Country School No. 8 before continuing her education at New Ulm High School.
After graduating from New Ulm High School in 1947, Lois followed her calling into healthcare, earning her Licensed Practical Nurse certification November of 1948 from Union Hospital School of Nursing. On July 23, 1951, she married the love of her life, Herb Fromm. The young couple moved to Dothan, Alabama, where Herb fulfilled his military service. Lois would later fondly recall their time in Dothan as one of the happiest chapters in her life-a rare place outside of Brown County where she truly felt at home.
After Herb's honorable discharge in 1953, the couple returned to Minnesota, first settling in Sleepy Eye before establishing their permanent home in New Ulm in 1956. Lois began her nursing career at Union Hospital, later worked at Sleepy Eye Hospital, and ultimately found her calling as the school nurse at Jefferson Elementary in New Ulm-a position she held with compassion for 23 years. She was a caring presence for generations of students, offering comfort and steady support to all who walked through her door.
While Herb drove truck for LCL Transit and Kraft Foods for over four decades, Lois gracefully managed the household and committed herself to raising their three daughters. Her unwavering love and boundless generosity were the foundations of her family.
Lois was the oldest living member of First United Methodist Church in New Ulm, where she sang joyfully in the choir, was an active participant in the Women's Circle, and dedicated many years to teaching Sunday school and helping make Francie's cookies for the annual church bazaar. She found great fulfillment in volunteering with organizations such as MRCI, the Food Shelf, Blood Bank, CAST, and the Chamber of Commerce. In her free time, Lois enjoyed baking, crocheting, knitting, ironing, and sewing. She was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, loved watching singing competitions, and later in life, found joy in putting together puzzles and creating crafts while living at Ridgeway.
Lois and Herb loved spending time together around Brown County-attending Legion baseball games, church services, card club gatherings, and making memories with a broad circle of friends. They treasured visits with their daughters and grandchildren in the Twin Cities, always making family their top priority.
When Herb fell ill in 2010, Lois once again devoted herself completely to his care, ensuring his final days were filled with love, dignity, and the presence of family. Their 59-year marriage was a testament to partnership and enduring love-they faced every season of life together, hand in hand.
Lois will be remembered for her warm disposition, her deep and abiding faith, and the love she gave so freely to those around her. To know Lois was to witness the very best of humanity-she was, in every way, the embodiment of selflessness and grace/virtue.
She is survived by her three daughters: Brenda Brown and her husband Ted of Shakopee; Cyndi McArdell and her husband Rob of Shakopee; and Jane Fromm of Savage; along with her cherished grandchildren, Jesse and Colton McArdell. She is also survived by her sisters, Luverna Schultz of New Ulm and Elaine Bergien of Bloomington; her brother, Dale Gluth of New Ulm; and many loving nieces, nephews, and a plethora of friends who were more like relatives.
In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her treasured husband Herbert "Herbie" Fromm, brothers Willard (Katherine) Gluth, Donald (Delaine) Gluth, and Warren (Ruth) Gluth; her sisters Delaurice (Andy) Grams, Marlys (Artie) Lambrecht, and Shirley (Fritz) Hosto, her sister-in-law Alice Gluth, Brothers- in- Law Delmar Schultz and Milan Bergien, Nieces Ruth Burkholder and Renee Knopps; and Nephews Rance and Steve Gluth.
Even in her final days, Lois remained a caregiver at heart, always concerned about the well-being of those around her. When her golden heart gave its last beat, it left behind a profound void in the lives of her family one that can never truly be filled.
