Lois Smits, 80, of Waupun, passed away Thursday April 11, 2024, at the Waupun Christian Home.


Lois was born July 17, 1943 in WI, to Claus and Gertrude Aalsma Holstein. Lois graduated from Central Wisconsin Christian School in Waupun in 1961. After high school she was a CNA at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. She met the love of her life, Jerry Smits and later was married on June 28, 1968 at First Reformed Church in Waupun. She continued to be a CNA at the Christian Home, also cleaning houses and helping people throughout her life. Lois loved to camp, knit, and take care of grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading books, traveling, being devoted to her family, and walking her dog Chippers. 


Lois is survived by her children: Lynnae (Mitch) Shaw and Jason Smits; grandchildren: Jordon (Elizabeth) Shaw, Mason, Kaidon, and Dawson Shaw, Kiarra Smits and Jason Smits II; one great-grandchild on the way; a brother, Cliff (Twila) Holstein, sister-in-law, Karen (Floyd) Brandenburg; and many nieces and nephews. 


Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; her parents, and a brother, Arnold Holstein. 


Funeral services for Lois Smits will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Pastor Barry Lang officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in the town of Trenton. Friends and relatives may call on the family on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
