LON G. BROWN, SR. LIVESTREAM
Born on January 23, 1925, in Elgin, Illinois to Arnold and Gladys Brown, Lon Glen Brown, Sr. was the second youngest of four brothers and one sister, all of whom have preceded him in death. In the late 1930's, the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio where Lon attended Cleveland Public Schools.
After his high school graduation, he joined the United States Navy where he served as a Pharmacist Mate in the South Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged on March 28, 1946. After his discharge, Lon enrolled in the Cleveland College of Western Reserve University. While working and attending school, Lon met the love of his life, Lobelia Douglass. They were married October 30, 1948. To that union, three children were born: Lyn Michele Austin, Dawn Allyson Spencer (deceased), and Lon Glen Brown, Jr. (deceased). Lon retired from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. After his retirement, Lon tutored elementary school children in reading.
Lon was also active in many social clubs, including The Reynards. He was most dedicated to the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., where he served as a Line Leader, along with many other roles. He was inducted into an exclusive group of the Alpha's called The Talented Ten. Among many other things, Lon will fondly be remembered for the pictures he drew during church and his poems celebrating various occasions.
As a long-time, faithful member of St. Mark's Presbyterian Church, Lon served as an Elder, choir member, and a member of many committees, including several committees with the Presbytery of the Western Reserve. Lon's commitment and dedication to St. Mark's earned him the distinguished recognition as Man of the Year in 2023.
Often referred to as Mr. Swag Fabulous because he was so dapper and cool, Lon was indeed a man's man, a gentleman, a scholar, and God fearing. He was smart, feisty, witty, comical, artistic, poetic, handsome, and had an amazing singing voice, especially with the harmony and soul of Lobelia, his wife of 73 years who died in 2022. They often sang together, and he treated her with much love and respect.
Lon will forever be remembered for his love and dedication to his family. He was their King and affectionately called Dad by all the family. Lon was proud of the Brown name and insisted that all who had his name live up to the expectations that name carried.
Having led a full and fruitful life, Lon transitioned peacefully into glory April 17, 2025 leaving to cherish his memory his daughter, Lyn Austin; seven grandchildren: Christopher Austin, Jason Austin, Leslyn Austin, Brooke Spencer, Rod Spencer, Lon Brown III, and Sabrina Brown; and a blended family of ten great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lon Brown Sr. was a very good man. I knew him for decades as both a fraternity brother and a member of the church I attended at that time. He was as good a man as you will find.

In our fraternity in Cleveland for many years Lon led our choral group. We were known to perform at the Sweetheart Brunches of Alpha Phi Alpha. To the women in the audience our Alpha Chorus sang love songs. Our songs under the direction of Lon Brown fit right in with the Valentine“s Day theme in the Sweetheart Brunches of our fraternity.

A few days ago before I had learned of his passing I thought of him leading our Alpha Chorus in song. Among his favorites were NIGHT AND DAY and MOONGLOW. I sang both with thoughts of Lon As well, Lon Brown led the fraternity whine the brothers sang the Aloha Phi Alpha hymn.

May his soul rest in peace and may his family and all who knew him cherish his memory.
