Lonabelle Carmoletta Hineline age, 99, of Middleville Michigan passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17th 2025 at Pennock hospital in Hastings, Michigan with family at her bedside. Lona was born on January 3rd 1926 in
Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the late Earl and Esther (Faught) Douglass. She was the third born of four siblings. She graduated from Caledonia High School in 1944. While working in the factory at Grand Rapids Brass Company, she met the "love of her life" Evart (Hiney) C. Hineline. On their first date, they went fishing. They were married on January 30th, 1960. They bought a house on the Thornapple River, which they enjoyed, but they sold that and ended up in their "dream home" on Morrison Lake Golf Course. Hiney and Lona were passionate about golfing and played almost daily and were both involved in many leagues over the years. Lona took pride in being "Club Champion" for several years at Morrison Lake Golf Course. Lona's life changed drastically in 1985, when Hiney passed away, unexpectedly from complications from a medical procedure. Lona never remarried. Strong-willed, stubborn, smart and independent were personality traits that kept her going for 99 years. She was mentally sharp until her passing. She had a competitive nature, which was evident when she performed in bowling and golf, which she excelled at both. She was a wizard when it came to playing card games. She was in bridge clubs over the years and also enjoyed cribbage, and euchre. She also enjoyed reading and was very talented with crocheting and knitting. Lona was an excellent cook and was proud to be the chief cook at Morrison Lake Clubhouse for several years.
A special nephew and niece, Jim and Karen Douglass took good care of Lona and assisted her with any special needs that arose along her life after Uncle Hiney's passing. Lona had very special pets in her life - her pets were her babies. There were her dog's Buff and Misty and her cat's Andrew, Tiffany and Benji. As she reached her 90s, it became difficult to keep up with her house anymore, so she sold her house on the golf course and moved into Carveth Village in Middleville, Michigan, in a small apartment on May 3rd 2017. She loved her little apartment and the amazing staff there and the fact that she could remain independent until the end. She developed many friendships there over the last eight years and enjoyed the activities they offered - she especially loved working on the Jigsaw puzzles daily with the other residents.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Makenzi and Jamie and all the staff members who contributed to Lona's care and needs while she was there. You all made her very happy. The family would also like to say a special thank you to her sister Barbara's niece Sandy Marcukaitis for all her care and help she provided to Lona over the last few years.
Lona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her siblings and their spouses; Marguerite (Babe) Homrich, Millard Arden (Dorothy) Douglass and Barbara (Charles "Chuck") Tichvon. She was a very special Aunt, Great Aunt, Great-Great Aunt to many nephews and nieces who are surviving and will miss her deeply.
Her family, friends, and staff are all invited to attend a memorial service for Lona on Saturday. May 17, 2025 from 2PM to 4 PM at Carveth Village, 690 West Main Street, Middleville, Michigan 49333.
