Gregory James Hineline

Gregory James Hineline, 64, of Chesterton, Ind., died, like the legend he is, in his home while doing what he loved, on December 5, 2023.
He was born September 2, 1959 to James and Patricia (Koutny) Hineline, who, according to Greg, only ever bought him 3 shirts and 2 pairs of pants per year, however we know that he was beyond blessed with the most patient mother and stern father that were perfect for raising his ornery ass. Greg attended Chesterton High School and graduated in 1978. He spent the remainder of his life as a livestock and crop farmer, becoming a beloved member of the agricultural community in northern Indiana.
Greg had two daughters whom he loved dearly and deeply. He was proud beyond measure of them both and delighted in their happiness.
Though he loved farming, Greg's favorite role was that of a grandfather. He taught his six grandchildren important lessons such as, "Your mistake wasn't doing it, your mistake was getting caught," and, "Of course ice cream is a breakfast food!"
Greg was a collector of friends from far and wide. And, while he may have looked like a curmudgeon on the outside, we all know that he had the biggest, softest heart of us all. He loved his friends dearly and showed his love through dozens of eggs, the greatest tasting tomatoes in the world, and a big, hardy laugh.
Greg was passionate about farming from a very young age. He worked every single day of his life, and he would never want any of us to forget it. He raised his girls and his grandkids to work hard, love the Lord and the land, and fix most things with a broken screw driver and some WD-40.
Greg will always be remembered for helping anyone out of a ditch, his ridiculous jokes, and his big, growling hugs. We couldn't have asked for a more devoted father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and son.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, James Hineline, and is survived by his mother, Patricia (Koutny) Hineline; daughters, Megan Stoner and Penelope with husband William Kyle; sister, Joanne with husband John Zielke; grandchildren, Montgomery and Agatha Fetters and Charles, Newton, Simon and Annelie Kyle; nieces, Andrea and Natalie Zielke; and VIPs, Haley Fitzgerald, Sharon Reynolds, Kimberly McDowell; and his HoneyBun, Irene Jordan.
Visitation is Sunday, December 10, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304. The funeral service is Monday, December 11, 2023, at 10 am at the Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made to the family at ee-fh.com.
