Hastings Funeral Home & Omega CrematoryLonnie William Johnson, Jr., born on September 5, 1952 in Morgantown, West Virginia, passed away on September 16, 2025 at the age of 73. Lonnie was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
For more than 40 years, Lonnie dedicated himself to his job as a coal miner, working tirelessly at the Loveridge #22 Coal Mine in Marion County. His commitment to his work was a testament to his character and a strong work ethic that inspired those around him.
Lonnie found joy in the simple pleasures of nature. Whether it was fishing a trout stream or the peacefulness of a tree stand, he embraced the opportunity to be outdoors. These fond memories will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Brenda Johnson, whose companionship and love were his backbone. Together, they raised a family, including his daughters, Crystal White, Mary Catherine Taylor, and Mindy Johnson, as well as his son, Lonnie William Johnson, III. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Kala Gibson, Courtney Gibson, David Gibson, Jr., Isayah Jones, Emma Plum, Aurora Plum, and Dakotah Plum, along with several great-grandchildren.
Lonnie is also survived by his many siblings, Sue Harker, Jane Lewis, Betty Shaffer, Rose Skupnick, Cathy Johnson, Robert Johnson, Darlene Thome, Rocky Johnson, Teddy Johnson, Denise Franks, and John Johnson; as well as a very special friend, Carroll Stieringer, whose companionship enriched his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Robert Johnson and Mary Catherine Johnson, as well as his siblings, Bitsy Johnson, Denzel Johnson, and Dorie Wilson.
Lonnie leaves behind a legacy of integrity, hard work, and the profound impact he made on his family and many friends.
Friends and family will be received at Nicholson Chapel, 1326 Summers School Rd., Morgantown on Sunday, September 21st beginning at 2:00PM and continuing until the time of the funeral service on Monday, September 22nd, at 11:00AM, with Pastor Matthew Murray and Pastor Walter Sapp officiating. Burial will follow at Nicholson Cemetery.
