Alonzo (Lonnie) Harry Lumley, born on January 13, 1945, passed away on June 24, 2025 at the age of 80, in Urbandale, Iowa. Lonnie was born in Des Moines, IA but was raised in California. Lonnie enjoyed family road trips to California, visiting the beach and any memory that he could make with his family. He was known for his vibrant personality and humorous spirit, and left a lasting impression on all that knew him. Lonnie spent his career with the City of Des Moines Parks, where he dedicated many years enhancing the community's green spaces. His stories often filled with wit and laughter, will be missed but fondly remembered by his family, friends and colleagues. Lonnie was an animal lover- always had a dog companion and sometimes a bird or cat. Alonzo leaves behind his spouse, John Findlow, sister-in-laws; Margaret (Lynn) Steen and Mary Lumley. He was a proud Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Royal Oaks for their compassionate care the past seven months. Our gratitude is also extended to the amazing staff of St. Croix Hospice which gave all of us loving care and spiritual guidance. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Croix Hospice 1555 SE Delaware Avenue Suite Q Ankeny, IA 50021 Or The Animal Rescue League of Iowa A Celebration of Love will be held at a later date.
