Lonnie Ogborn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schwab Matthews Mortuary - Montpelier on Oct. 14, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Lonnie Eldon Ogborn was born on January 23, 1961, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Eldon and Geneal Ogborn. He was the surprise blessing born later in his parents' lives and joined three loving older sisters.
Lonnie loved life. He had an endless curiosity and enjoyed learning about just about anything-especially through documentaries.
As a young man, Lonnie was active in the Boy Scouts, where he created some of his favorite memories, including surviving a 50-mile hike through Glacier National Park. His scoutmaster, Ferrel Dilworth, became a lifelong friend, and Ferrel and Susan Dilworth's family became like his own.
During high school, Lonnie played football and wrestled. He loved to tell the story that "no one could ever pin him."
After graduation, Lonnie began his career with Basic American Foods, where he worked for 18 years.
In 1981, he married Lisa Ogborn Saxton. Though they later divorced, they remained close friends. After their separation, Lisa had a beautiful daughter, Kristina Marie Ogborn, and Lonnie lovingly stepped in to help raise her as his own. Kristina was the light of Lonnie's life, and their bond was unbreakable. When she passed away in 2004, both Lonnie and Lisa's hearts were forever changed.
Lonnie lived in Pocatello for many years before becoming a beloved part of David and Marie Hunt's family. For over 20 years, he joined them on camping trips, concerts, and travels. Holidays were always spent together. He was known to drive down a couple of times each month to "do laundry," though everyone knew it was as much for Marie's home-cooked meals and good company as for the washing machine. Lonnie later lived with them for several years, becoming an even closer part of the family.
Lonnie had a sharp wit and a file full of jokes. He could make a pun out of anything and had a laugh that was downright contagious. He loved to tease and bring smiles, especially to the nurses and CNAs who cared for him. His grin could light up a room.
Lonnie spent his later years at Bear Lake Assisted Living and, more recently, Bear Lake Skilled Nursing Center. The staff there became family to him, and he made many dear friends-especially his best friend and birthday buddy, Misty Lyon. David Lindsay was also a dear friend who called and kept good tabs on Lonnie through the years. They all brought joy and comfort to one another's lives.
Lonnie was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved Jesus and strived to live a life full of kindness, laughter, and light.
Lonnie is survived by his sisters, Sharon and Wanda, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday Nov. 1, at 11:00 a.m. at the Montpelier 4th Ward Chapel, 485 S 7th Street, Montpelier, Idaho.
Graveside Interment services will follow at the Georgetown Cemetery, with a luncheon for family and friends afterward at the church.
Lonnie's laughter, faith, and love will live on in all who were lucky enough to know him.
