Grant M. Ogborn, 39, passed away at his home due to natural causes on October 9th, 2024. Grant was born on March 8, 1985 in Barrington, IL and was raised in Crystal Lake, Il where he attended Crystal Lake schools and graduated from Prairie Ridge High School in 2004. He then attended MCC and CLC, earning his Associates Degree in Graphic Design. He most recently worked in Chicago as a 3D photographer for companies to put their products on their websites. He photographed anything and everything from lightsabers to raw meat.
While in high school, Grant worked at The Fountains Senior Living Center in Crystal Lake where he made many of his lifelong friends, including the love of his life, Alexis Whitney. They started dating in 2010 and married in 2018 in a private ceremony in beautiful Brecon Beacons, Wales, the land of his ancestors. Alexis and Grant were everything to each other and they made their home together in Chicago.
Anyone who knew Grant was aware of his passion for anything cinema – movies, TV, shorts, etc. He had a YouTube channel, under the name Maguffin Man, where he would do short, entertaining reviews of movies. He also was a comic book fanatic, collecting comics and memorabilia for years. His favorite was the Hellboy series and anything created by Marvel. If you never had the pleasure of watching Grant's videos, please check out his channel to not only see his reviews, but also his collectibles in the background. His channel also included unboxing videos of collectibles by The Comic Chest.
Grant loved music and often attended concerts with his best friend Grant Jaskulski, among other lifelong friends.
Grant is survived by his wife Alexis Whitney, mother Gayle Carey, brother Curt Gladstein (Steph), sister Kylene Hopkins (Matthew), nephews Cameron Hopkins, Emmett Hopkins, and Crosby Gladstein, and aunts, uncles and cousins, too many to name, here in the US and abroad in Wales. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Mari Whitney, father-in-law Lynn Whitney, sisters-in-law Brittany Cone, Molly Whitney and Hailey Whitney, and niece and nephew Lily and Colton Wray.
Grant was the most calm, down-to-earth person you could ever meet and was loved by many. He was often described as humorous and larger-than-life, and anyone that knew could only speak about him with laughter and joy.
We will be arranging a celebration of life over the next few days, which we plan to host very soon because that is what Grant would want. Please check his Facebook page or the Facebook pages of Gayle Carey, Curt Gladstein, Steph Gladstein, Kylene Hopkins and Matthew Hopkins for an update of where and when. The information will also be added to the comment section of the obituary on the Kisselburg-Wauconda Funeral Home website.
Please attend the celebration wearing your favorite hoodie, graphic t-shirt, or band t-shirt!! If you knew Grant, that is what he would expect you to be wearing!!!
