Loren "Dan" Crabtree, 81 of Franklin, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024 after a brief illness. He was born on August 11, 1943 in Columbus, Indiana to Garvin Preston and Sarah Louise (Adams) Crabtree. Dan married Jennifer Jean Brown on August 20, 1965. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years. Also surviving are two sons, Paul Brian Crabtree (Julie), Matthew Allen Crabtree and grandchildren, Zoe Crabtree, Logan Crabtree, Luke Crabtree and Olivia Crabtree. Dan leaves behind brothers Larry Crabtree, Steve Crabtree and sister Sheila Jane Oliver; step-siblings, Evelyn Kent, Sylvia Valler, Mark Kritzer, Steven Kritzer and brother-in-law John Asbury. He was preceded in passing by his parents and sister, Deborah Ann Asbury. Dan was a 1961 graduate of Nashville High School. He received his Bachelor and Master degrees in Physical Education from Indiana University. Dan's experience included teaching science and P.E. in Brown County High School, Eastern High School and at Clark Pleasant Schools in Whiteland, Indiana. At all these schools, he became well known in the community for his role as a successful basketball and baseball coach. He was an avid sports fan and would watch "any" game that was on T.V. especially I.U. and the Reds. After retirement, Dan joined the men's golf league at Deer Valley where he played until its closing. He enjoyed the Monday travel groups and the three-day golf outings where friendship, stories and memories were made. Dan took many bird hunting trips to Iowa with his family and his good friends Jim and John. He loved to sit out in his garage, talk to his good neighbors, catch some sun and take a little nap. Dan was a long-time member of Greenwood Christian Church. A Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the church, 2045 Averitt Road, Greenwood, Indiana 46143 Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to time of service at 12:00 p.m. at the church. Private burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nashville, Indiana. Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Greenwood Christian Church, 2045 Averitt Road, Greenwood, Indiana 46143. Expressions of caring and kindness may be received to the family at www.flinnmaguire.net
