Loretta J McCartney

Loretta Jean McCartney of Falmouth died on September 3, 2025 in her home, with her loving daughters Nancy and Donna by her side. She was 94.

Born in New Bedford on April 5, 1931 to Mary and Manuel Benevides, she worked at the MBL in Woods Hole where she met Hugh (Mac)McCartney, who was in the Coast Guard. They shared 65 years of marriage. Mac passed away in 2016.

Loretta also worked at the Cape Cod Drive In, then Ortin's Photo for 20 years. She and Mac loved numerous cats and dogs throughout the years, and she kept a feeding station for the wild animals out back, including coyotes, raccoons, birds, squirrels, bunnies, and skunks. Loretta also loved to tend her garden, take pictures, and work in ceramics.

She leaves her daughters Nancy Johnston, and her husband Tom, and their three children Caitlin Lanier and husband Blake, sons Jace, Cole, Troy, and Luke; Ali Crilley and husband Tim, and their son Brayden; and son Daniel Johnston and his fiancé Kimi; and Donna J. McCartney and her partner George T. Washington, and her son Justin McCartney and his wife Shannon.

There will be no public services per Loretta's request. She will join Mac in a burial at St. Anthony's Church in East Falmouth.
