Mrs. Loretta Leigh Hall Mooney, age 52, of Mount Airy, passed away on Saturday morning, April 13, 2024 at Northern Regional Hospital in Mount Airy surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Mooney was born on November 16, 1971, in Surry County to the late Geniva Elois Young. Loretta was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She loved all her students who referred to her always as “Mrs. B” She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Surviving is her husband, Chris Mooney; son and daughter-in-law, Blake Barneycastle (Macayla); stepdaughter, Whitney Metcalf (Grant); grandchildren, Johnny and Joseph Barneycastle, Eli Metcalf; sister and brother-in-law, Carol Stone (Terry); brothers Terry and Leon Hall. In addition to her mother Mrs. Mooney was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Johnny W. Barneycastle. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with service conducted by Glenn Vanmeter, and Peter Cain. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until the time for the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens.
