Loretta “Rita” M. Hill, 85, of Lubbock, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening, July 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 11, 1938, in Lubbock, Texas, to the late John William Haddock and Lou Frances (McDermitt) Haddock.
Rita attended and graduated from Lubbock High School. She met Everett Hill, the love of her life, and they were married in Lubbock, Texas. Mr. Hill preceded her in death in June of 2006.
In her early years, she worked at the Lubbock International Airport restaurant for many years. She then began working for the Lubbock Auto Auction, with over 30 years of service, before retiring in 2019. She loved doing puzzles, playing many types of card games and dominos. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church and had also been visiting Sunset Church of Christ.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews: Johnnie Carol, Dorothy Sue, Della Ann, Nancy Jane, Patricia Rose, Jerry Wayne, Belinda Gail, James David, Glynna Ruth, Anthony Alan, Linda June, Randall Wayne, Timothy Glynn, Sherry Lynn and Amber Lashae. She also leaves behind great-nieces and nephews Jimmy Don, Robert Wade, Jake Bo, Jammer Brian and Richard Alan. She is also survived by a stepson, Gary Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Jerry Haddock and Glynn Haddock, as well as two sisters, Ruth Thompson and Vera Fair; and nephews, Vivian Alan, Tunky Jason and Christopher Lee, and a niece, Teresa Ann.
A visitation for Mrs. Hill will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 5 PM to 7 PM in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 2 PM, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Rev. Steve Miller and Mr. Larry Thurne will be the officiants. Final rites and interment will follow in the Smyer Cemetery, in Smyer, Texas, under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes.
The pallbearers will be Jimmy Don Stevens, Jared Thurne, Larry Thurne, Chris Waite, Amber Fair and Timothy Brown.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Rita’s name be sent to St. Jude’s’s Children’s Hospital or to Temple Baptist Church in Lubbock.
