Obituary of Loretta J. Straley

STRALEY, Loretta (Whiting Dalton)

May 4, 1935 – Oct 5, 2025

Loretta passed peacefully at home with many of her children present.

She was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Sophia Straley, and sister Helen Straley. Loretta is survived by children Christine Whiting, David (Cindy) Whiting, Cheryl (Jeffery) McCann, Joan (Terry) Taylor, and Kevin (Wendy Wheeler) Dalton; her grandchildren Matthew Whiting, Madeline McCann, Gary Whiting, Bridget (Boris) Park, Danny (Mia) Dalton, and Emily Dalton; and great grandchildren David Whiting, Makai Dalton, Aurora Dalton, and baby Park, due in December.

Loretta was a 1953 graduate of Thomas A. Edison High School, and worked at several local manufacturers as a stenographer after graduation. She later became employed by the U.S Postal service, and retired in 1997.

She was called Mom, Mama, Ma, and Gramma by her family and others. Loretta's family was always her main focus, and she would go to great lengths to help them all.

Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads, on Friday October 10th, 2025 from 12:00 – 1:00 pm, her funeral service begins at 1 pm. Interment will follow in St. Peter and Paul's cemetery.
