Loretto Therese Ludowese

Loretto T. Ludowese, 87, of Atwater, died Thursday morning, July 12, at Glen Oaks Care Center in New London. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at11 A.M. Tuesday, July 17th, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer. Interment will be at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Stewart. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. (www.petersonbrothers.com) Loretto was born July 10, 1925, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the daughter of Lars and Anne(Phelan) Hylden. She attended grade school in Park River, North Dakota and graduated from Thief River Falls High School. She graduated from the College of St. Benedict in 1948 and taught English in Wadena, New Ulm and Mankato. She spent two years in Japan as a civilian with the Air Force Special Service. In 1959, she married Ray Ludowese in St. Paul and they lived and farmed near Stewart until Ray's death in 1988. Loretto later moved to Diamond Lake near Atwater. Loretto was a former member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart and a current member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer. She was also active with the St. Benedict's Alumni Association. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and traveling. Loretto had a precious collection of Blessed Mary statues she purchased on her travels. Above all, Loretto loved her Lord and her family. She is survived by three children: Joseph (and Kim) Ludowese of Stewart, Elizabeth "Betsy" (and Mike) Killeen of Savage and Raymond Ludowese of Mora; seven grandchildren; two sisters: Audrey (and Don) Corcoran of Fallbrook, California and Mary Don Linneman of Sleepy Eye and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Ray in 1988; five brothers: Maurice, Father Joe, Harold, Lawrence and Donald Hylden; and three sisters: Margaret Hayes, Delores Aas, and Fran Madeira.
