Loriel (Lolly) Safford Bieri

Loriel (Lolly) Safford Bieri died at the age of 81, after a long struggle with health issues, on Nov. 30, 2022 in hospice in Arnold, MD.

Lolly, was born in Fort Sill Oklahoma. She graduated from Clarksville High School, Clarksville, TN, studied nursing at Vanderbilt University, and graduated from The University of Maryland. She married Leon Delbert Bieri in 1961 at West Point, NY.

Lolly was a licensed teacher and day care provider.

Lolly worked throughout her life in a variety of professional and volunteer youth education and day care positions for preschool and elementary school children.

She also worked as a healthcare counselor at clinics in downtown Baltimore and in Anne Arundel County, MD.

She was active in St. John's Episcopal Church- Broad Creek of Fort Washington, MD and St. Martin's-in-the-Field Episcopal Church in Severna Park, MD. She taught Sunday school and participated in outreach at both churches, including the prayer shawl ministry.

Lolly is predeceased by her husband, Leon Delbert Bieri (1935-2000).

She is survived by: her sons, Robert Leon Bieri, and his wife, Christine, of Severna Park, MD; and Thomas Frederick Bieri, of Rohnert Park, CA; 4 grandchildren; her brothers, Charles (Chuck) Safford, and his wife, Linda of Lovettsville, VA, and Lawrence (Larry) Safford and his wife, Helene, of Los Angeles, CA.

She is also survived by Frank Krause, who was a loving, loyal and supportive partner through her final years.

A memorial service will be held on January 14th, 2023 at 11:00 AM, with a reception to follow, at Saint Martin's-in the-Field Episcopal Church, 375 Benfield Rd, Severna Park, MD 21146. A private internment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Hospice of the Chesapeake.
