Lorne J. Twiner

June 29, 1934 – August 23, 2025

Richard John Lorne Twiner passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, at his cherished lake home, surrounded by the serenity he loved. Born on June 29, 1934, in North Bay, Canada, Lorne's life was a remarkable journey shaped by resilience, adventure, and compassion.

He was the son of Dick Twiner, an indentured servant for the Hudson Bay Company, and Margaret St. Pierre. Raised in the wilds of northern Canada, Lorne's early years were filled with vivid tales of bears, trappers, and the unforgiving cold-stories he shared with humor and pride.

Lorne studied briefly to become a monk at St. Joseph Trappist Abby in Spencer Mass. before embarking on a diverse career. He held roles from clerk at the Hudson Bay Company to assisting his father in the trading fur with local trappers and the indigenous people. After moving to the United States and earning his citizenship in 1970, Lorne built a successful career in advertising and real estate. He worked with Retail Credit Corporation (now Equifax), D'Arcy Advertising, and J. Walter Thompson. From 1972 to 1976, he was a partner

in Think Inc., a full-service advertising agency. As a licensed real estate broker since 1976, he owned and managed over 22 apartment buildings in Midtown Atlanta.

Lorne was also known for his spirited involvement in the famed Ramblin' Raft Race on the Chattahoochee River, which once drew over 300,000 participants.

Lorne had a deep compassion for those in need and was a mentor and friend to many. His philanthropic efforts included serving on the board of Catholic Charities, co-founding The Place to support the underprivileged in Forsyth County, and being a substantial supporter of Peachtree Farm, a nonprofit employing adult with disabilities. He was a proud Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow, especially honored for his role in delivering wheelchairs to those in need in Belize.

Lorne is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kay Garland Twiner, his brother Don, and his sister Joy.

Lorne had three children Laura, Michael, and Brian with his first wife, the late Lynn Twiner; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He will be remembered for his storytelling, his generosity, and his unwavering belief in lifting others up. Lorne lived a life of purpose, humor, and heart-and leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A Funeral Mass will be said September 8th. at 12:00 pm at Good Sheperd Catholic Church
