It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Lorraine (nee Kuret) Erker, 74, who peacefully left this world Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, at her home in Mentor. Surrounded by her loved ones, she left a world that was made better by her presence.
Lorraine was born Feb. 13, 1950, in Cleveland to Frank and Justina Kuret. She spent her childhood and teenage years in Cleveland and Euclid and later moved around the country before settling in Mentor, where she spent the last four decades.
After graduating from Euclid High School, Lorraine pursued business courses. She worked at Motch & Merryweather and Realty Title before embarking on a new journey at Hospice of the Western Reserve, where she served for 10 years before retiring in 2021. Her work improved the lives of countless individuals, and her legacy will live on through the people she helped.
On May 27, 1983, she married the love of her life, Raymond Erker. This extended her family and made her an aunt and sister to many. She was devoted to him for 21 years, and even after his passing in 2004, she continued to cherish their memories.
As a dedicated St. John Vianney Church member, she eagerly participated in the choir and frequently volunteered her time. Her love for singing was especially evident during the Christmas concert and mass services. Her involvement in the church community enabled her to forge many new friendships and relished attending various outings and social events. She also found a sense of camaraderie through the Small Church Prayer group and Women's Prayer Group, where she connected with like-minded individuals and cherished their company. She was a member of the Seven Sisters prayer group for priests at St. John Vianney Church. She was also a board member of Heatherstone Condominiums and dedicated her time and passion to helping others.
Lorraine's life was filled with joy and adventure. She cherished spending time with her family and friends and loved exploring new places, whether by bus, cruise, or road trip. Her monthly "cousin lunches" were always filled with animated conversations and hearty laughs. She visited Florida yearly to spend time with her son, extended family, and friends. She also traveled to New York to visit her brother and attend dinners and social events, which expanded her circle of friends. Lorraine was a doting grandmother and loved being actively involved in her grandchildren's life events. She always took advantage of every opportunity to spend time with family and friends or have a good time. Even in her downtime, Lorraine found ways to enjoy life. She loved reading, gardening, and watching her favorite shows.
She is remembered for her beautiful smile and wonderful laugh that lit up any room. She was a generous and fun-loving person with a heart of gold. As a dedicated mother, she supported her children through every journey in their lives, providing guidance and unwavering support. Her kindness knew no bounds, as she always went above and beyond to help others, whether by lending an ear, giving a thoughtful gift, or simply sharing a smile. Lorraine inspired all who knew her, living life to the fullest and cherishing every moment.
She was the loving mother of Christopher Popovich (Ken Winders) and Allison (nee Popovich) Martin (Steven Griffith); cherished grandmother of Tyler Fair, Meaghan Blaker-Martin, Alexander Martin, Zoe Griffith, Riley Griffith, and Julie Griffith; dear sister, Robert Kuret; aunt and cousin of many.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Erker; and parents, Frank J. and Justina M. (nee Nainiger) Kuret.
