Lorraine G. Matson, 95, passed away peacefully under the care of her family and hospice on Saturday, September 20, 2025 in her daughter’s home in Warsaw. She gets to spend her 96th birthday in heaven with her husband whom she has missed dearly.
Born in Chicago, Illinois on September 22, 1929, Lorraine was the daughter of Elmer and Gladys (Schlutz) Dorris. She attended Carl Schurz High School in Chicago, Illinois.
On February 1, 1948, Lorraine married Robert W. Matson. After his Honorable Discharge, the couple moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan to be closer to family that had moved there as well.
A devoted homemaker, Lorraine centered her life around her children’s sports, school functions and extracurriculars. She was always involved and attentive. This then carried onto her doing the same for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lorraine had a great friendship with her local neighbors. She was a devout Methodist.
Lorraine is survived by her children: Linda (Allen) Winslow of Spring Lake, MI, Robert (Patricia) Matson Jr. of Clermont, FL and Sandra Matson of Warsaw; 3 grandchildren: Kelly (Mike Moyer) Matson, Tim (Julie) Winslow and Chris (Renee) Winslow; and 4 great-grandchildren: Olivia, Lucas, Carter and Callum.
She was preceded by her husband, Robert M. Matson Sr. in 2008, her parents, daughter-in-law Doris Black Matson, and her siblings: Clarence Dorris, Al Dorris, LaVergne Wise and Ken Dorris.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025 from 6-8 p.m. at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw.
A private family burial will be held in the Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Memorial contributions can be made to the donor’s choice in her memory.
