Lorraine (Burleigh) Metzger, 87, of Columbia Cross Roads, PA passed away peacefully at the Sayre Health Care Center in the presence of her family on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
Lorraine was born on January 31, 1938 to Frank and Ruth (Christopher) Burleigh on the family farm outside of Austinville, PA. She attended Columbia Cross Roads School and then graduated from Troy High School in 1955. Lorraine worked at Troy Engine Machine Company until they closed in 1959. She then went on to work for Eighmey Buick Olds Pontiac for 45 years.
Lorraine enjoyed her local bowling league, competing for over 40 years, including trips to State bowling tournaments and the Nationals in Las Vegas. She was inducted into the Troy Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2005. Lorraine also enjoyed golf and was a member at the Corey Creek Golf Club for many years. She cherished family gatherings, including the annual Christmas cookie bake and always brought her delicious potato salad to the family picnics. Lorraine was a great card player and was still winning at Aggravation this year.
Lorraine is survived by her nieces Terri (Andy) Newkirk of Nashville, TN and Linda (Raymond) Barrett of Newark Valley, NY who thought of her as a second mom; her sisters Ann Jeanette (Ronald) Kennedy of Roseville, PA, and Mary Lou (Tom) Judson of Newark Valley, NY; her step daughters Denise Metzger of Alexandria, VA and Yolanda (Duane) Pick of Troy, PA, along with four granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Philip Metzger, her beloved companion Bob Hawley, her parents, her sister Donna (Harry) Corey, her brother Tom (Daisy VanDyke) Burleigh, her sister Kathy (Jeff) Earle, and a newborn baby brother.
Family and friends are welcome to gather from 10:00-11:00 AM on Friday November 7, 2025 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 1093 W Main St. Troy, PA. The funeral service to celebrate Lorraine’s life will be held at the conclusion of the viewing at 11:00 AM on November 7th at the funeral home with her pastor, Re. Kenneth Marple, officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Lorraine’s memory to the Activity Fund at Sayre Health Care Center, 151 Keefer Lane, Sayre, PA 18840.
